How to Style Curtain Bangs

All of us have tried bangs at least once in our lives. Both blunt–cut bangs and side–swept bangs have been huge style trends, but sadly, they don’t work for everyone. So what’s the deal with curtain bangs, and what makes them so unique?

What Are Curtain Bangs?

Curtain bangs are basically blunt–cut bangs with wispy ends that are parted down the middle. The middle part and wispy ends allow the bangs to blend into the rest of your hair easily and create a “curtain” effect on your face. Curtains soften the harsh edges of a window and create beautiful curves and shapes. Curtain bangs do the same thing for faces. Curtain bangs are much less dramatic and high maintenance than blunt–cut or side–swept bangs.

While curtain bangs are relatively low maintenance, they still require some time and attention. Assess how much effort you want to put into your hair care daily.

Styling Curtain Bangs

So you decided to take the plunge and get curtain bangs—now what? Here are a few different ways to style your bangs at home.

• Classic soft curtain bangs

To achieve the classic soft curtain bang look, you will need a blow dryer, a round brush, and some styling spray. To get the best results, start with damp bangs; either style them after washing your hair or spritz them with water to dampen them. With your bangs parted down the middle, wrap one section around the brush and blow dry it away from your face. Repeat with the other section. Be sure to twist the bangs through the round brush to the end to get that wispy effect. Once you’re finished, spritz them with your styling spray, and you are good to go!

• Curly curtain bangs

If you have curly or kinky hair, you can still pull off curtain bangs! After washing your hair, twist your bangs into a two–strand twist or Bantu knots. Once your hair is completely dry, pull your bangs out and shape them with your fingers or an afro pick. Work in a bit of serum to boost your volume and get that curtain bang look. You can also do finger coils or two–strand twists on damp hair and gently diffuse to get a natural curly curtain bang.

• Bold and full curtain bangs

Wispy curtain bangs may not work for everyone, which is why we love a bold and full curtain bang look. You can achieve this look by blow drying your bangs straight down with a flat brush, then using a round brush and holding it vertically to flick up the ends as you finish blow drying. You can also do this look with no heat if you have the right texture and cut of hair.
